You’ve heard that phrase, the curse of the skyscraper? Y’know, the idea that when a city builds some spectacularly tall building…it’s a harbinger of economic doom for that city? Like the Empire State Building gets completed and bam — the Great Depression hits.

Well, tomorrow, The Shard will officially open in London. It’s the tallest building in Europe at over a thousand feet high. With Britain’s double-dip recession and now the Barclays scandal, looks like that skyscraper curse is the real thing.
