Nintendo 3DS XL revealed

John Moe Jun 22, 2012

To properly write about developments in handheld video game systems, I feel it necessary to write like the 11-year-olds this is probably meant for.

Ahem.

Whoa! They’re gonna make a big version of the 3DS! They just announced it! It’s gonna come out in August so right when I get back from camp. It’s called the 3DS XL and the top screen will be 4.88 inches and the lower screen will be 4.18. The regular 3DS has a 3.53-inch top screen and a 3.01-inch bottom screen. I know that as an 11-year-old, it’s surprising that I talk about things in such exacting detail but I’m exceptionally fastidious!

It’s gonna cost $199 which is more than the 3DS but you get a bigger screen! I don’t know if this is Nintendo’s indication that the 3DS is selling pretty well after a rocky launch and that there is more of an untapped market than expected, or just a way to put a new shine on a product that the company needs to succeed since its really pinned its future to console-based gaming in a world where app-based gaming seems to be ascendant!

Yeah, I’m 11 but I’m fascinated with business issues and my vocabulary is EXTREME
