Facebook is going out of business and will soon shut down. Well, okay, that’s the alarmist reaction to a new survey that shows some worrying stats for Big Face, especially in the wake of the bumpy beginning to public trading. A survey from Reuters says four out of five Facebook users say they’ve never bought anything off of a Facebook ad or off of comments and posts about a product seen on Facebook. That figure could be seen as kind of shaky because if you gain some awareness of a product through Facebook and then buy it later, do you really realize that it was Facebook that brought it to you? That might be effective, though not obvious, advertising.
The online poll also found that 34 percent of Facebook users surveyed were spending less time on the website than six months ago, whereas only 20 percent were spending more.
That’s a figure that had been steadily increasing over several quarters but is now dropping. Could the novelty have worn off?
