A new survey by Harris Interactive on behalf of Choice Hotels International finds that nearly one-in-five Americans plan to take more vacation trips during this summer than last. Results of the survey show that 87 percent of Americans plan to take more or about the same number of trips this summer compared to last year. And 42 percent of Americans say they plan to take two or more trips.
"We're seeing unemployment going down, consumer confidence is going up; we're seeing gas prices stabilizing and I think overall Americans are just feeling better about the economy," says Alexandra Jaritz, senior vice president of brand strategy and marketing and Choice Hotels International.
Though Americans plan to travel more this summer, many are focused on getting more value. "They're really looking for ways that they can stretch their dollar," says Jaritz.
The survey was conducted online among 2,199 U.S. adults in April.
