Kickstarter gets scammed

Marc Sanchez May 2, 2012

Seems like every week we’re getting wind of a new crowd-funded project on Kickstarter getting bananas cash. The million dollar ceiling has been shattered, crushed, and ground down to kitty litter. You probably shouldn’t be surprised to find out that it didn’t take the get-rich-quick ne’er do wells to figure out a way to scam people out of their hard-earned cash. A project for a World of Warcraft-like game, called Mythic, appeared last week. It had a modest, by current standards, goal of $80,000, but as of yesterday Little Monster Productions, the game’s developer, pulled the plug, because all signs point to it being a fake.

The BBC reports: “Internet users subsequently reported that teaser screenshots had been copied from unrelated concept art and graphic design tutorial websites.” One poor gamer is up for a big let down after pledging over $2500 for a chance to be immortalized as “a demigod in the actual game.

The good news is that since the project was cancelled and it was never funded, no money ever exchanged hands. Time to throw Kickstarter on top of Mt.This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things (elevation: 10,000 ft. – and growing)
