There used to be a time when the bigger your boom box speakers were, the cooler you were. Not so much nowadays, when all your music is floating in the cloud and you travel with a computer in your pocket. Jawbone, makers of Bluetooth technology, have just come out with an update to its Big Jambox to prove the point. It’s a couple speakers built into a futuristic-looking box, about half the size of a shoe box, that receives a signal from your phone or tablet.
Use your Apple, Android or Microsoft device to pump out the jams at your summer barbecues, or take it to the beach. Keep an eye on it though, because it’s going to cost you $300. To which you say, “for that price, it better make me breakfast.” No breakfast, but it does also double as a speaker phone. You can use it to broadcast your calls or hook up video conferencing services like Skype, GoogleTalk, and FaceTime. According to Engadget the thing sounds pretty great too.
I know this isn’t mind-blowing technology, but you still have to stop every now and then to marvel at the kinds of products that are ready and available to us. It’s no jet pack, but I was rocking a DiscMan 10 years ago. It’s hard to imagine how I’m going to be listening to my music in 2022.
