New iPhone: faster and better looking

John Moe Apr 10, 2012

Are we part of the problem here on the Morning Memo? I’m about to talk about the rumors out there of the next iPhone being field tested ahead of a likely launch this fall. The big item people are talking about is the guts inside the machine. 9 to 5 Mac says that the new iPhone will have a variant of the A5 chip inside, which should make it way faster. It also will have 1GB of RAM. It’s being tested inside of an iPhone 4S casing in order to provide cover in the wild. So any iPhone 4S you see COULD BE THE SECRET NEW IPHONE! It’s like a golden ticket to Mr. Wonka’s factory.

Over at Apple Insider, the buzz is about the outside, not the inside. The blog quotes analyst Brian J. White of Topeka Capital Markets who says to look for a sexy new design:

He believes the next iPhone will have a larger screen, which he sees as being 4 inches. He also expects the device will have high-speed 4G LTE connectivity, just like the new iPad.
“In our view, this will be the most significant iPhone upgrade with a four-inch screen and a new, sleek look that we believe will require a Unibody case,” White wrote. “This new, sleek look will be the most important reason that consumers decide to upgrade.”
