Consumer Reports modifies hot iPad stance, also says its hot in a different way

There was a lot of, I’ll just say it, heat recently when Consumer Reports said that the new iPad does indeed get kind of hot when used a lot on something like a graphic-intensive game. But those results didn’t really match up with the findings of other researchers who tried the same thing. Consumer Reports then carried out further testing and said that it did not find the results to be especially alarming or cause for concern for customers.

In fact, Consumer Reports says not only is the temperature not a big problem, the iPad is the best tablet on the market:

The high-resolution screen of the new iPad establishes a new benchmark in excellence, providing the best rendering of detail and color accuracy we’ve ever seen on a tablet display. As a result, the iPad tops our new tablet Ratings, posted today.
Performance on the new iPad ($500 to $830) was superb in virtually every other way as well. The 5-megapixel camera took very good photos. Verizon’s 4G network yielded very fast, dependable connectivity to a 4G-compatible version of the iPad in our informal tests. And despite the energy-intensive display and graphics, the iPad still has longer battery life than all other tablets.

We talked to Consumer Reports when the first heat report came out and our guy said at the time that the heat was not a big problem. It will be interesting to see if this new report, which pretty much reiterates the same thing, will mollify CR critics who were upset that the organization knocked Apple.
