Apple announcement: but wait, there’s more!

John Moe Mar 8, 2012

A couple of other things that were noteworthy about yesterday’s shindig:

The iPad 2 is cheaper. Apple dropped the price of the iPad 2 by $100, bringing the baseline Wi-Fi 16gb model down to $400. While that’s still twice the cost of the Kindle Fire, it’s, well, an iPad. Glenn Fleishman, speaking on our show today, says that this means Apple is no longer content to be the lower-selling high-end product line for for snobs. Now Apple wants everyone. It also bears noting that the iPad 2 is arguably a couple steps ahead over every other pad already and now it’s cheaper than it used to be.

Also, there’s an update to the Apple TV peripheral device (we call it the hockey puck here at MTR headquarters). Big difference is that it offers 1080p resolution, which is an improvement over the old version and is likely to please cinephiles. There’s a new interface too, which looks a ton easier to use than what’s out there now. Owners of older hockey pucks can download the new interface as a free update.
