Samsung files new patent suits against Apple, this time in South Korea

John Moe Mar 7, 2012

It never stops. The patent war. It moves to different global theaters, it manifests in new battles, but it just never stops. Oceania has always been at war with East Asia. Alas.

The latest volley is legal action from Samsung against Apple, this time in South Korea, the home turf of Samsung.

Says the Journal:

The new allegations cover so-called utility patents that relate to the specific functions of mobile computing devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs. In April last year, Samsung accused Apple of violating five of its patents related to technical standards in the way data is transmitted by such devices. Samsung filed that suit in response to a case brought by Apple in the U.S. in which it accused Samsung of copying the look and feel of its products. In the time since, their legal battle has spread to more than two dozen cases in nine countries.

Was this timed to coincide with Apple’s big announcement today? Of course it was. Samsung and Apple have been battling in court over patents for quite some time now and Samsung has yet to score any meaningful wins.
