Apple is NOT releasing the iPad 3! It’s actually called the iPad HD

John Moe Mar 6, 2012

All that talk about an iPad 3 is a load of hooey, according to the latest rumors, which may themselves be loads of hooey. Now it appears the device is to be called the iPad HD, presumably in an effort to play up what we’ve heard is a much higher resolution display screen. Venture Beat elaborates:

Apple’s next iPad is expected to sport a ridiculously high-resolution display running at 2,048 by 1,536 pixels. By comparison, current iPads feature a much lower resolution 1,024 by 768 display. The higher-resolution display will not only make text and pictures sharper, it’ll also make the iPad HD the only tablet to support 1080p high-definition at its full resolution (1,920 by 1,080). Expect Apple to market the hell out of that feature.

The other rumor getting more play this morning is that Apple is buying up components for a smaller screen, in preparation for launching a smaller and cheaper iPad later this year, maybe timing it out in time for Christmas.

“We won’t sleep until every human owns a thousand Apple products!” Apple CEO Tim Cook didn’t really say. “MBWAHAHAHAHAHA!” he didn’t add.
