Valentine’s Day: Let’s do the numbers

Adriene Hill Feb 14, 2012

Let’s do the numbers again… this time with a little more love.

All told, we’ll spend $17.6 billion for chocolates and bears and balloons and jewelry.

Guys will spend about two times as much as women.

We’ll give 150 million Valentine’s Day cards.

And the New England Confectionery Company will stamp out 8 billion Sweetheart candies with sayings like “Be Mine” and “#1 Fan.”

We’re here to help you navigate this changed world and economy.

Our mission at Marketplace is to raise the economic intelligence of the country. It’s a tough task, but it’s never been more important.

In the past year, we’ve seen record unemployment, stimulus bills, and reddit users influencing the stock market. Marketplace helps you understand it all, will fact-based, approachable, and unbiased reporting.
