Angry Birds coming to Facebook

John Moe Jan 30, 2012

I just don’t get it. There. I said it. I’m not ashamed. I don’t get why Angry Birds is this popular. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun game, well-designed, challenging. But it has become this huge cultural event. Kids at my kids’ school wear Angry Birds apparel. And now there’s much to-do about the gaming coming to Facebook as an app. It opens up the game to yet more users, in this case the ones who can get on a computer for Facebook but maybe don’t have a smartphone. And it increases the cultural ubiquity of the game. AND IT’S NOT THAT GOOD A GAME.

But you know what this is? This is future kitsch. Today’s kids will grow up and make references to Angry Birds and then THEIR kids will just sort of shake their heads.
