GoDaddy boycott kicks in today

John Moe Dec 29, 2011

This one’s been festering for a while but today has been set as the day people are supposed to officially switch their website registries from GoDaddy.com to some other registrar not currently loathed as much. The idea is to make a statement by having a single enormous drop in GoDaddy’s numbers in one day. The enmity toward the company stems from its support of the Stop Online Piracy Act, support that GoDaddy has since withdrawn, choosing a more neutral stance instead. Still, on message boards and online communities, the boycott appears to still be on.

Interestingly enough, the noisy folks don’t always represent the masses and in the time since the controversy first emerged, there have been days when more people have signed up for GoDaddy than have left it.
