700,000 Android devices activated every day

John Moe Dec 21, 2011

Apparently its Gaudy Numbers Season in the world of tech. Yesterday we told you about how YouTube notched a trillion viewing sessions over the course of the past year. Today we learn that 700,000 Android phones and tablets are activated every day. Numbers are abstract sometimes, I know, but how about this. That number was 550,000 per day in July, 500,000 in June, 400,000 in May. Last month, Google revealed that 200 million Android devices have been activated to date, setting the stage for Android to pass Apple’s 250 million devices some time next year.

Why should you care?

Once that field tilts, the developers will tilt with it. Already, any app maker worth their salt will build for both platforms (maybe getting around to Windows or BlackBerry some day, maybe not) but as Android continues to grow faster than Apple, you’ll be seeing more premieres of the cutting edge tech on Android and NOT on Apple.
