Spotify adds apps

Steve Henn Dec 1, 2011
Spotify has always resembled the original Napster. It even has some of the same backers. Like Napster, you log on and pick the songs you want to hear. It’s a giant celestial juke box in the sky, and unlike FM radio (remember FM radio?), or Pandora where you tune in and a playlist is created for you.

But if you don’t know what you want to listen to, you can be lost. The new apps should help.

Spotify has introduced apps, making it possible for app developers to build new services on top of its platform. Now when you log into the streaming music service, you’ll see a selection of apps on right-hand side. Publishers like Rolling Stone and record labels can create content with links to songs – even buying concert tickets could be built right in.
