New Netflix app for Android tablets

Marketplace Staff Nov 15, 2011

Would I be talking about this on a jam packed busy news day? Doubt it. But there is a subtext to this story. First the story: Netflix is rolling out a new app for Android tablets that’s designed to look better and be a lot smoother than the current system. The release is timed to coincide with the new Nook Tablet and Amazon Kindle Fire tablet that are both coming out. A new app for iPad is coming soon.

The subtext: let’s all admit that trying to find stuff on Netflix is a disaster. It takes forever to scroll through your options, the categories don’t always make sense. Sure, it has 20,000+ titles but Amazon has a lot more books than that and you can always find your way around. For Netflix to get through its recent troubles and keep people happy, it has to find a better way to navigate. Maybe this app is a step in that direction.
