Ford Motor Company had this great idea to replace a lot of the buttons and knobs on a traditional car system with a sort of touch screen equivalent called MyFord Touch. It comes standard on higher end cars and costs $750 for less expensive models of cars. Only trouble is the system screws up a lot.
Dealer phone lines and Internet chat rooms were soon buzzing with complaints. The system shut down without warning and took too long to reboot. It didn't understand voice commands and didn't always respond to owners' touch. Some owners found the information-packed screens overwhelming.
Now Ford is addressing it by sending out some 250,000 flash drives next year that it says will fix the problem. Ford insists that the product wasn't rushed out to market without being thoroughly tested but it says that not everything can be completely tested outside of the actual market, stuff just comes up when it's in the real world. Which, to me, seems like a way of Ford saying "our testing process is bad".
