Garage Band comes to iPhone and iPod Touch

John Moe Nov 2, 2011

Good news for struggling bands who, after paying for amps and drums and guitar strings and cheap beer, can’t afford any decent recording equipment. Now all they need is an iPhone or an iPod Touch to lay out the sweet new album.

Says Wired:

The slimmed-down iPhone app has all the features of the iPad app: a multi-touch interface with Smart Instruments (to piece together pre-assembled musical bits) and Touch Instruments (for those who want to play and record their own instrumental tracks). You can also record vocal tracks using the device’s built-in mic, and (with the help of an adapter) plug an electric guitar directly into your iDevice and record tunes through GarageBand’s amp and stompbox effects.

This is one of those innovations that passes under the radar a little bit because it’s just existing technology being adapted to a smaller device. But HAVE YOU REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THE AMAZING TIMES WE’RE LIVING IN? You can compose, record, mix, on your freaking PHONE. The people of 15 years ago would be screaming at us for taking this for granted.
