Zynga is launching its own social network

Marc Sanchez Oct 12, 2011

If there’s one thing the world needs right now, you guys, it’s a new social network. Because really, honestly, that need is simply not being filled. It’s sad really. How can we ever talk to other people over computers.

Snark over.

Zynga’s new system is called Zynga Direct and it’s not so much about sharing photos from parties as it is about playing Zynga games like Farmville, Cityville, and the new Mafia Wars 2. Most people play those games on Facebook (another social network) which has given Zynga tremendous exposure but gouged Zynga in the process, taking a massive cut of in-game sales. Zynga isn’t abandoning Facebook here (though it’s threatened to do so in the past) but is trying to go it alone at least in part.
