Jobs returns to Apple and takes some heat

Here he responds to insult at an Apple event in 1997 after a developer in the audience asks “Where have you been for the last 7 years?”

**Jobs at Pixar. **

This interview take place before Jobs begins his second act at Apple. He’s no longer young. He has been out of Apple for more than a decade. Bill Gates is the richest man in the world . And Jobs has bet everything trying to build two new companies; Pixar and NeXT, and he came close his entire fortune.

Triumph of the Nerds

In an interview for the the PBS documentary “Triumph of the Nerds” which aired i 1996 Jobs describes stumbling across his muse for the first Macintosh at Xerox PARC in the early 1980s. The Jobs interview starts at 2:57

“Triumph of the Nerds” was filmed during Jobs exile from Apple computer and at time in the film he could seem bitter. In this clip he offers an unvarnished assessment of Microsoft.

Jobs on Paul Rand

In this interview with Steve Jobs from 1993, Jobs talks about the American Designer Paul Rand. Rand created some of the most iconic logos in the corporate world, including this image for IBM.

This is one of the most obscure clips I’m posting, but there are several things about it that I love. It was my first introduction to Paul Rand. It offers a glimpse into Job ideas about logos, commercial art and style. And finally I think Jobs time away from Apple is the most interesting and compelling part of his life story. And in this clip there is none of the bitterness that came out in the PBS film Triumph of the Nerds. It’s just Steve Jobs talking about the creative process.

“Computers are the bicycles of our minds.”

This is one of Steve Jobs best known quotes. It’s even better in its entirety. I don’t know the date this was shot, but it was during his time at NeXT.
