Verizon joins in the slew of lawsuits against the FCC’s recently published rules on net neutrality.
Until now, the suits have come from the left, arguing that the rules don’t go far enough and should encompass wireless providers. Verizon’s case is the opposite: it doesn’t want the Federal Communications Commission regulating Internet traffic at all, chiefly on the grounds that the FCC doesn’t have the authority to make such rules.
“‘We are deeply concerned by the FCC’s assertion of broad authority to impose potentially sweeping and unneeded regulations on broadband networks and services and on the Internet itself,” said Michael Glover, Verizon’s general counsel. “We believe this assertion of authority is inconsistent with the statute and will create uncertainty for the communications industry, innovators, investors and consumers.'”
