Tess Vigeland: And finally to this week’s Marketplace Money Piggy Award. Our little blue plastic friend is heading to BERLIN! Specifically, the office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who not only saved money this week, she arguably saved an entire currency. For now.

Merkel pushed through an expansion of a bailout fund for eurozone countries teetering on the edge of insolvency. We don’t know that it will solve all the problems over there — or here for that matter — but at least it’s something. All I ask is that you not turn our friend into bratwurst.

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.

Your donation today powers the independent journalism that you rely on. For just $5/month, you can help sustain Marketplace so we can keep reporting on the things that matter to you.
