Amazon to grab WebOS?

John Moe Sep 30, 2011

Today’s big rumor is that Amazon is in serious talks to buy the whole Palm brand and attendant technologies off of HP. In fact, Venture Beat says the deal is closed to being done. Now, you’re right, Amazon just launched a whole new revolutionary product that uses the Android operating system. But if they had the Palm WebOS platform all to themselves, they would be free to monkey with it to suit their own needs. I can’t help but wonder what that means to Amazon’s rather ambitious Android app store. Oh well. They could just build more stores. They build stores all the time. And if they could designate WebOS as an Amazon thing and the Fire really catches, um, fire, then developers would build for it. Plus, right now, you could probably buy WebOS off HP for 4 bucks and a rubber band.
