AT&T dangles jobs to get its way, now everyone’s doing it

John Moe Sep 2, 2011

Amazon.com says it will create 7,000 full-time jobs in California if the state doesn’t make them pay its new Internet sales tax until 2014. I can just imagine the Amazon board room yesterday (“Curses. It’s brilliant! Why didn’t we think of that?”) when AT&T threw its promise of US jobs on the table yesterday in exchange for being allowed to buy T-Mobile. Of course, we live in a world where Michele Bachmann says she’ll lower gas to $2 a gallon if she gets elected president. Meaning: promises are the easy part.
