For Marketplace, Monday, August 29, 2011

Today we kicked off a three-part series looking into the U.S. military’s efforts to wean themselves off of oil in the future. Regular citizens are seeing more and more compostable products being used in the food industry, but it’s still difficult to actually get those products disposed of correctly. Hurricane Irene hit some parts of the Northeast this weekend particularly hard, like Vermont, which may have to do with its landscape. President Obama announced his latest nomination to his Council of Economic Advisers. And finally, musician Ry Cooder stopped by the Marketplace studio to talk about this new album, “Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down,” which is streaming here. And here are the songs we played:

  • A Candle’s Fire – BeirutBuy
  • Everything Falls Apart – The One AM RadioBuy
  • The Matador Has Fallen – Danger MouseBuy
  • El Corrido de Jesse James – Ry CooderBuyStream
  • The entire new album “Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down” by Ry CooderStream
