Fox’s Hulu delays makes piracy go way up

John Moe Aug 23, 2011

So a week ago, Fox decided to build in lag time between the time a program aired on the network and when hit showed up on Hulu. In the mean time, it was available for people who subscribed and paid money. Since that time, however, people have been simply pirating copies of all those shows and watching them free and not paying Fox anything. TechCrunch cites traffic analysis by TorrentFreak which finds downloads of Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen went up 114% and Master Chef went up 189%. On Hulu, Fox could show ads and collect revenue. On torrent sites, they can’t.
