President Obama named his nominee to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau today. News Corp. stocks continue to fall, but most financial advisers believe the company will make it through the scandal intact. The heat wave in the Midwest is affecting crops and electricity prices. Florida, in an effort to keep its budget under control, is pulling back on mosquito services. Facebook has set up a data center in a small town in Oregon, and it’s already helping the economy there. Kai spoke with author Rachel Shteir about her book on shoplifting, and to Marketplace’s David Gura about the latest debt ceiling plans in discussion in Washington. Here are the songs we played:

  • Hot S*** (I’m Back!) – The Roots
  • Will My Feet Carry Me Home – Elf PowerBuy
  • 1517 – The Whitest Boy AliveBuy
  • Funky 24hrs a Day – AnwarriorBuy
  • Enough – Dujeous
