Hacking scandal fallout

Almost none of the recent developments in the rolling boil that is the Murdoch hacking scandal have much to do with technology, precisely, but it is a story that, in the end, has to do with security on networks.

Latest: the Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal has a rather amazing editorial, defending its corporate owner and saying that the scandal is being blown out of proportion by other media outlets who are jealous. “The Schadenfreude is so thick you can’t cut it with a chainsaw,” the editorial says. Honestly, you gotta read this thing.

Police resignations abound in London after a New York Times report on the cozy relationship between the cops and the Murdoch empire. Also Rebekah Brooks, former chief exec of News International has been arrested.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) wants Congress to investigate whether the Murdoch empire was up to any shenanigans in this country.
