Codebreaker

Facebook sending out Vibes about a music service?

John Moe Jul 8, 2011

A Bay Area programmer found something curious while poking around the code for the new video chat service: references to a new app called Vibes, which seems to connect to a dialog box where users can download music. Don’t get too attached to the name “Vibes”, the same code calls the video chat function “Peep”, which was never used (because: ew.) There have been rumors about a Facebook music service for a while now. It does seem kind of suspicious that this code is already live at the same time that Spotify, a service publicly praised by Mark Zuckerberg, says it’s about to go public in the United States. SO. Could this be a partnership? Is this a real game changer? An integration of social and music in a really innovative way?
