New venture aims to separate you from your money, as most ventures do. That's the way it is. Some things will never change. Right, Bruce Hornsby? And The Range? The new partnership offers card holders discounts when they check in somewhere on Foursquare and use their card. So you're at the mall, check in, get a big discount at some store. This is one of those deals where Foursquare gets more exposure and more users, Amex gets people to spend more money and everyone's happy except everyone else. Geez, John, why so grumpy about shopping? Dunno. Have issues, I guess. They ran a test of the service at SXSW in Austin a couple months ago and people spent 20% more than they otherwise would have.

“I think the best compliment I can give is not to say how much your programs have taught me (a ton), but how much Marketplace has motivated me to go out and teach myself.” – Michael in Arlington, VA
