US warns China of a vulnerability in its infrastructure software

John Moe Jun 17, 2011

The Department of Homeland Security is warning the Chinese government that the software being used to help run China’s weapons systems, utilities, and chemical plants is really buggy and could lead to a bunch of disastrous hacks. The software is made by Beijing-based Sunway ForceControl Technology Co. American security researchers have found the bugs and say that they’ve worked with China and Sunway to make patches but that until all the systems are upgraded, they are vulnerable. Interesting to see DHS get involved here after all the icy relations between the US and Chinese governments over hacking accusations that have flown back and forth.
