Xbox schedules event at the same time and people show up

John Moe Jun 7, 2011

Yeah, it was a real fun day to be following live blogs. Larissa and I were yelling back and forth. Must have really thrilled the Krista Tippett show people. Microsoft had their E3 kickoff speech and talked about yet more TV integration, more chances to turn your Xbox into an entertainment hub and not just a game player. Microsoft announced its Kinect system will soon let users stream live tv shows – people in the US can start using the service next year, after people in Britain, France and Australia get a chance to try it out. But it’s not just live TV – it’s Hulu Plus and Netflix, and you can search the Interwebs. And, you’ll be able to search for these shows using Bing’s voice powered search. It’s the ultimate way to veg. Example: “Xbox! Bing! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!” and then supposedly Bing goes off and finds all the places you can watch that movie, on Hulu Plus or pay per view or whatever. I’ve got a hunch that the unit will somehow hear it as “Xbox! Bing! Hair of Potheads and a Definitely Halloween!” I would love to see what that brings back.
