Microsoft presents Mango

John Moe May 25, 2011

What does it say about Microsoft’s position relative to Apple that Microsoft is now naming operating systems after fruit? Coincidence I’m sure. Anyway, Mango is the new mobile OS for Windows phones, coming soon but previewed yesterday. It has 500 new features. And I will now list all of them. No I won’t. There is some deeper Facebook integration and easier ability to send messages to groups of people. Mango (the name will be changed to something duller when the official launch happens) was met with something of a yawn yesterday. I saw some speculation that it sets Microsoft up to be a smartphone platform for cheaper phones. We’ll see if that happens. The takeaway here is that Microsoft is still pushing hard on phones and that they haven’t yet given up and bought BlackBerry.
