Taliban: The revolution will be Tweeted

Jeff Horwich May 12, 2011

Well, LOOK WHO’S finally joined the 21st Century. Sort of. In at least one tiny respect.

The Taliban are on Twitter. So if you need to spice up your feed of Ashton Kutcher, Wil Wheaton and Marketplace Tech Report (!) with a little Pashto interspersed with occasional English updates such as “11 US-NATO invaders killed,” knock yourselves out.

The Taliban have nearly tripled their follower count since The Guardian noted their microblogging presence yesterday. But I try not to think about that as I give them yet…more…publicity…yeah. Interesting, though.

How representative is one Twitter feed of the entire movement? Interesting that they continue to post vitriol even as Taliban leaders reportedly enlist in the fight against remaining elements of al Qaeda.
