Hotels go high tech in battling towel thieves

John Moe Apr 20, 2011

If you’re staying at a nice hotel and really like the big fluffy towels they have, you might be tempted to “accidentally” drop one in your suitcase when you leave. After all, they have millions of towels, they wouldn’t notice just one missing, right? WRONG, CRIMINAL! Some schmancy hotels are now placing RFID chips in their towels. Little tiny chips that can be sewn into the towels and instantly trip an alert if they are taken off the hotel property. Then the hardened criminal with the softened towel can be apprehended. One Honolulu hotel says it’s already saved $15,000 using the system.
