Amazon Appstore for Android launches

John Moe Mar 22, 2011

The long rumored Amazon store for Android devices is finally live as of today. They’re offering a free download of the new Angry Birds game to celebrate/promote. Categories for games, utilities, social networking, music, and more. Gotta say it’s pretty nicely laid out, Amazon is pretty good at selling things after all, and stands to be a much nicer shopping experience than Google’s Android app store. It’s a real opportunity for Amazon and for Android owners.

IF they can get past a brand new lawsuit by Apple. Yep it all has to do with the name “app store”, which Apple claims belongs to them. They’ve gone after Microsoft before and now they’re going after Amazon. It’s worth noting that Amazon put no space between “app” and “store”. It’s just “appstore”. Doubtful that Apple will be okay with that.
