MID-DAY UPDATE: Mortgage applications hit a three-month high, Ivory Coast ‘nationalizes’ cocoa

More people are applying for mortgages than at anytime in the past three months. That’s according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.

Sprint and T-Mobile are reportedly in merger talks. They want to compete with bigger shops AT&T and Verizon.

A congressional committee will meet in Washington, D.C. today to examine how compensation for federal workers compares with the private sector. Conservative think-tanks such as the Heritage Foundation say federal employees are overpaid in comparison to their private sector peers.

Britain is urging the United Nations to take action to control the Gaddafi family’s profit in oil on sales. The U.K. is asking the U.N. to direct oil-sale profits into an account to benefit the Libyan people.
