Verizon comes out swinging on net neutrality

John Moe Jan 21, 2011

Long after the sun swallows the earth and then collapses into itself becoming a black hole that sucks all matter and light into it, we will still be arguing about net neutrality Thursday, Verizon Communications filed a legal challenge to the FCC’s new rules on net neutrality. We all saw this coming. The rules prevent carriers from blocking legal content from users, and they don’t allow broadband providers to discriminate against any content. The rules are slightly more lenient on wireless providers. Verizon filed with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia – the same court that ruled against the FCC and for Comcast in a case last year, saying the FCC didn’t have the authority over Comcast’s decision to block specific traffic on its network. The net neutrality rules haven’t even been published on the Federal Register, so it’s not clear if this filing will stick. Verizon may need to file again to get its case heard.
