So last summer someone hacked into a database at AT&T and made off with well over 100,000 emails of iPad customers. Personal email addresses to New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, then-White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, and lots of others. Tuesday, the FBI made two arrests in the case and released the complaint against the accused. It included 150 pages of chat transcripts wherein the motivation for the crime seemed to be "max lols". Maximum laughs out loud. They wanted to embarrass AT&T and drive down its stock price and they wanted to get the media covering the hack to believe that their affiliation of hackers was an actual security company. They didn't want money, didn't want to spread a virus, just wanted max lols.
“I think the best compliment I can give is not to say how much your programs have taught me (a ton), but how much Marketplace has motivated me to go out and teach myself.” – Michael in Arlington, VABEFORE YOU GO
