Eat less meat

Matt Berger Nov 27, 2010

Animal feed uses up most of the grain produced in the country, and not very efficiently. All that grain protein could feed people, instead!

Meat production generates significantly more greenhouse gas pollution than the same amount of plant-based protein. Some studies put it at up to 25 percent of global emissions. That’s on top of major contributions to agricultural runoff of pesticides and fertilizers into our waterways, causing major dead zones, like in the Gulf Coast, where little life can exist.

Meat eaters are also, on average, 10 lbs. fatter and die seven years earlier than non-meat eaters. So, whether it’s for the planet or your waistline, make the switch!
