Today, we learned that the U.S. is getting a demotion in a ranking of well-being across the globe from the U.N. Internationally, we look at how herders in Inner Mongolia are coping with a changing landscape.

For months in Europe, people have been protesting government austerity cuts. One of the proposals governments are considering is raising the retirement age. We look at what would happen if the U.S. did the same. We also look at where the U.S. economy is headed, whether politics will change foreclosure investigations, and your reaction to some of our stories.

Kai talks to Detroit Mayor Dave Bing and finally, does the color of your trash bag matter to you? Here’s what we played:

Marketplace is on a mission.

We believe Main Street matters as much as Wall Street, economic news is made relevant and real through human stories, and a touch of humor helps enliven topics you might typically find…well, dull.

Through the signature style that only Marketplace can deliver, we’re on a mission to raise the economic intelligence of the country—but we don’t do it alone.
