Apple’s new auto-censor

Steve Henn Oct 22, 2010

Apple’s new iMovie11 software won’t allow users spoof Universal Studios.

An Apple user tried to recreate Universal Studio’s opening icon using the new iMovie program.
First he created an image of a globe seen from space, and then tried to superimpose the words ‘Universal Studio’ over it. But iMovie11 recognized the word ‘Universal’ and blocked it. iMovie allows folks to use the word ‘Universal’ in other contexts but when there is a globe hovering in the background. No word yet if Apple’s also blocking the MGM Lion or the Fox Searchlight.
