Codebreaker

ZeuS imitating Conficker

John Moe Oct 15, 2010

There’s a whole lot of tech jargon in this story that I’ll spare you but the important thing to know is that the ZeuS computer worm, which has been infecting computers all around the world may be evolving. ZeuS has been able to operate in isolated patches, it’s basically an off-the-blackmarket-shelf piece of software that lets you run scams and steal money from people who get it on their computers. But recent iterations of ZeuS have begun to resemble Conficker, a worm that has built up a LINKED army of computers that don’t know they are part of this army. Conficker effectively turns computers into a zombie army but one that is largely dormant so far. BUT, if you have a ripoff worm acting like an army-assembling worm, that could be very big and very bad.
