MID-DAY UPDATE: More job losses in September…

This morning, the Labor Department said federal, state and local governments cut more jobs than the private sector created. Non-farm employment dropped by 95,000 jobs. The official unemployment rate stayed flat at 9.6%, but the more inclusive, “U-6” unemployment rate rose to 17.1%, not much lower than it was a year ago.

The Great Recession has dramatically slowed migration to the US and the European Union. A new study from the Migration Policy Institute tells the tale.
