For Marketplace, Tuesday, September 21, 2010

The Federal Reserve announced today that they’re staying out of the way of economic recovery efforts. Kai discusses with reporter Jeremy Hobson about what the means, while commentator Justin Wolfers suggests that economic forecasting may not be as scientific as we had hoped. Housing starts for apartments and condos seem to be going up, though, and some important healthcare provisions are set to go into effect next week. The Chinese mid-Autumn festival begins tomorrow, and the tradition of eating mooncakes has taken an unusual role in the underground economy. Rob Schmitz reports from Shanghai about the black market business of mooncake vouchers. Meanwhile, the songs from today’s show are worth chewing on:

  • Minor Swing (John Beltran’s Remember New Orleans Remix) – Django ReinhardtBuy
  • Subterranean Homesick Blues – Bob DylanBuy
  • Page 17 – LanguisBuy
  • Wildcat – RatatatBuy
  • Intrdctn. – Dabrye
