I live in an apartment. Can I still compost?

Adriene Hill Aug 12, 2010

Easy Answer: Yup. Especially if you’re willing to make nice with worms.

For all of you with the dream of composting but without access to an outdoor compost pile–fret not. With a plastic bin, some worms, and a little work, you can turn your kitchen scraps into soil with the best of them.

It’s called vermicompost..

New York City has developed handy guides on setting up your own worm bin, finding the right worms, feeding your worms, and harvesting your vermicompost.

WARNING: Make sure you keep your worm bin well sealed. My colleague heard a story about a friends whose worms escaped and met untimely ends all over the floor.
