Stimulus check

Chris Farrell Feb 16, 2010

Question: The $250.00 stimulus check that is supposed to be sent out is that supposed to be for the year 2010? I have checked the ssa.gov web and they are as blank as a chalkboard. Can you shed some light on this? I am on Social security disability and I would really like to know if I should be receiving a check this year or not. Thank you Stephanie, Jacksonville, FL

Answer: You should have received a $250 check this year as part of the fiscal stimulus package passed in early 2009. The payments were issued on a staggered basis throughout the month of May. If you didn’t get a payment or aren’t sure Social Security recommends contacting the agency at 1-800-772-1213. You can also get more information online here.

The Obama Administration has proposed an additional $250 payment for 2010. The recommendation is part of the Administration’s 2011 budget proposal. The budget still needs Congressional approval. If this part of the budget gets the nod after negotiations the second $250 payment will also go to some 57 million Social Security recipients, veterans and people with disabilities.
