Marketplace Scratch Pad

We confess

Scott Jagow Aug 14, 2009

You’ll be seeing some fun, new features on marketplace.org over the next few months. The first one, College Confessions, is a must-see for the photographs alone.

Know who this guy is?

Find out at the College Confessions page. My colleagues who put the project together asked various Marketplace staff to share their the biggest financial mistake from college.

I was on vacation last week, so I didn’t get a chance to participate. I actually don’t remember any serious financial gaffes from college. I didn’t have any money.

Wait, that’s not exactly true. I went on spring break once and as soon as I arrived at the motel with my friends, I somehow managed to break a sliding glass door. I had to empty out my checking account to pay for it and spent the rest of the week mooching off my buddies. It taught me an important lesson: never throw a baseball to a guy who can’t catch.

But most of my stupidity occurred after I completed four years of education. I’ve told you about that stuff before.

It’s tough to pick one favorite song from college, but I’ll go with Scotty’s Lament by The Connells. If you’ve never listened to The Connells, you’re missing out.

Keep on eye on marketplace.org for more projects like this one.

And by all means, tell me your best college money story (and, of course, your favorite song from those days).

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.

Your donation today powers the independent journalism that you rely on. For just $5/month, you can help sustain Marketplace so we can keep reporting on the things that matter to you.
