Marketplace Scratch Pad

The whatever economy

Scott Jagow Jun 25, 2009

I recently saw a sign in front of a hair salon: “First-time customers, whatever you want to pay!” Then, this morning, Boing-Boing put it together for me. We are in the Whatever Economy:

Okay, then, I would like to purchase a small cylindrical space in the middle of the room. I will make a cardboard cone and cut a door out of it.

Are you feeling the whatever blues?

It’s hard not to. But whatever doesn’t have to be a bad attitude, does it?

I will now quote Noel and Liam Gallagher. There’s a first time for everything:

“I’m free to be whatever I, whatever I chose, and I’ll sing the blues if I want.”

Say whatever you want.

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.
